Optimmune® Usage Tips
Optimmune is an eye ointment used twice daily, containing ciclosporin A and it controls destruction of the tear glands, increases natural tear production and controls painful inflammation.
How to correctly apply Optimmune to your dog's eyes
Step 1
Wear gloves when applying the ointment, and avoid getting the ointment on your skin or in your eyes. Always wash your hands, and any skin that has been in contact with the ointment, thoroughly with soap and water immediately after treating your dog.
There are 3.5 g of Optimmune ointment in a 10 g tube. A degree of air is to be expected. Much of the ointment may be in the flat end of the tube. On first opening, be prepared for a small amount of Optimmune to be released from the nozzle.
Step 2
When opening the tube for the first time, while breaking the seal on the cap, carefully grip the neck of the tube to avoid exerting a twisting force on the tube and weakening the body of the tube. Squeeze the tube very carefully and always from the bottom upwards. Do NOT roll or fold the tube as it may damage the tube and cause it to split which will result in product wastage.
Step 3
Wipe away any discharge before applying the product. Apply the equivalent of a small grain of rice (5 mm) to the inside of the eyelid. The ointment will spread as the dog blinks after application.*
Step 4
Keep your Optimmune at room temperature and handle the tube with care. The nature of the Optimmune ointment means that the tube has to be manufactured using a very specific material which needs to be handled carefully to avoid damage.
Step 5
Apply Optimmune twice a day at 12-hourly intervals. Discard any unused product after 1 month and begin a fresh tube.
