What is the Coopers® Gut Support?
Coopers Gut Support contains a unique mixture of prebiotics and postbiotics to help to support the beneficial hindgut bacteria and therefore help to support normal gut function. It also contains free amino acids and amino acid derivatives.
By using prebiotics and postbiotics the horses own unique balance of microflora is supported without the need to supplement with external bacteria (probiotics).
What are prebiotics?
Prebiotics are non-digestable food ingredients that act as food for the healthy bacteria within the horse’s gut. They selectively stimulate the growth and activity of the beneficial bacteria to support hindgut function.
What are postbiotics?
Postbiotics are bacterial by-products produced by bacteria during the fermentation process, such as short chain fatty acids and bacterial cell walls. These metabolites have a positive effect on the beneficial bacteria within the horse’s gut and are likely to:
- Support healthy bacteria by contributing to the structure of the cell wall
- Protect the healthy bacteria against pathogenic bacteria
- Support a healthy intestinal barrier
- Support the gut’s natural immune system
Free amino acids
These help to form the enzymes needed for optimal food digestion and the development of proteins. This helps horses to maintain condition.
